I think you're absolutely right. Small market operators tend to be an 
integral part of their community. I refused a job on Long Island 
because the owner wanted to keep the General Manager title and make 
me Station Manager. To be successful, the decisionmaker needs to be 
in house, not in a distant city. I argued that the GM should be an 
active member of the community. Sometimes even golfing is necessary.
