[BC] Why FM took off in the 70 s

I hate when a rock group shows contempt for the fans by playing the songs
that made them famous differently. The great ones like the Rolling stones
and Jimmy Buffet know what made them famous... The only rock era remakes
that I recall ever doing anything were Clapton (Derek and the Domino's) with
Layla and Neil Sedaka with Breaking up is hard to do. Two totally different
arrangements same artist both hits.

When a rock band has played a hit 10 bazillion times and is sick of it, they
try taking liberties with it by doing variations in concerts. That hacks
off the audience too. No, they want to hear that oldie just like it
originally was, in 19--whenever.

Either way it's a serious problem. At one of the syndicators I worked for
some "wrong" versions were used. We got Hell from stations. Both from the
PDs who recognized the wrong cut and through them from their listeners. Play
what listeners expect, especially with Oldies or you'll pay a heavy price.
