[BC] TV Standards

All I iknow is this....

At the NAB a few years ago, they had both systems there. 8-VSB required an
outdoor antenna, 1000 feet of Comscope coax and a preamp to make an excellent
picture. COFDM used a Radio Shack UHF bow tie antenna IN the booth!

At a private demonstration some time ago, Rep. Billy Tauzin was there. He
asked why one system (8-VSB) required two antennas pointed out the windows of
the room, while the other (COFDM) was using an antenna on the conference room
table.

Finally, COFDM works in moving cars; 8-VSB does not.

Spectrally, they BOTH fit in a 6 mHz channel. There's no difference there.

Power wise, 8-VSB be a bit more efficent then COFDM, but a COFDM transmitter
is much easier to align and maintain.

Not to mention that COFDM is the WORLDWIDE standard! But then (of course)
Eureka is the worldwide standard for digital radio and here in the US we
mucked THAT one up too!

With regards to interlaced vs non interlaced, at the highest bit rates, our
DTV syatem is interlaced. Period.

The system is not inferior except in Dana's mind.
