Yep, I used to listen to Jack on KDKA when I lived here in the late '70's.
He's great.

WYEP and WSHH are also good locally owned and programmed stations. Driving
back from Greenfield (where my radial ended), I also listened to WSAJ 91.1 in
Grove City. The student DJ (it's the Grove City College FM) was not only
articulate, but his alternative music mix was GREAT. They also sounded very
good technically.

I also found an interesting station on 92.1. An oldies station that called
themself The Pickle! Their music was quite good in that they were playing
oldies I have not heard in some time (Mitch Ryder, Judy Collins, Shocking
Blue, etc.). Unfortunately, they faded out before I got back to PGH.

Most of the AM's here (including the one I'm measuring this week) are
satellators. That's too bad. The FM's here sound like VERY generic formats
(Note to Mike G. - The KISS'es in other markets might (all) sound different,
but the CC KISS here is as generic as it gets!).

The FM's here universally sound like S**T technically too!

A couple of signals I check out whenever I'm in Da Burgh:

WJAS 1320 may yet turn out to be the last standards station standing. Their
morning guy is a Pittsburgh institution, Jack Bogut, who's literally doing
the same show on WJAS in 2005 that he was doing on KDKA in 1968. Corny, and
probably an acquired taste for anyone who's not a native Pittsburgher...but
different, anyway.

Suburban AMs WKHB 620 and WKFB 770 are largely leased-time...but when
they're not leasing time, they're being programmed by my pal Clarke Ingram
as a pretty good homage to early 70s AM top 40. Sometimes Clarke even takes
the mike for a live shift or two, at which point, if you close your eyes,
it may as well be 1973.

On the FM dial, WYEP 91.3 is a very good AAA outlet, if you're into that
sort of thing. The rest of the commercial dial is pretty generic.

It's also a great tower town - several big AM DAs in the North Hills,
including the 8-tower (2x4) 970 site in a cemetery (!), and some venerable
self-supporters on Mt. Washington, across the river just south of downtown.
