FWIW, just to clarify a tad, that was the newer slim line 4000+ models,
where the '300%' switch lifted the positive clip diode completely.

The 400 white elephant that the original poster asked about had the
black tubular 'polarity sensor' clipper module (zeners) across the
output xfmr.
You could elect to disable the positive peak clipping for 'supermod'
purposes by unsoldering one of the legs to this module, then only the
negatives would be clipped.  The manual explained how to do this.  Lots
of guys put in a switch.  

The audible effect of going from 100% to 125% positive is almost
negligible.  But when you get it up to 200%+, then you've really got
something there.
