It may be, but honestly, how often does the average viewer refer to a TV
station by its FCC-assigned call sign?

When CBS did the call-sign change, they ran an ad in the trades to
announce it, which carried the tag line at the bottom:

(Bet you can't remember what our call letters used to be.)

Much truth there, methinks.
