Either a well placed .22 long rifle slug or a 12 ga buckshot load takes care
of them nicely.... did it all the time when I was a kid.

Seriously, though, here's what you do:

Pull the plug off the end of the CRT's neck, and with needlenose pliers,
bend one of the pins just enough to make a tiny crack in the glass,
through which the vacuum can escape.  Well, actually, it lets air _into_
the CRT to fill up the vacuum; you'll hear a faint hiss as that is
happening.
