With EMP concerns keeping that old RCA BTA1-R1 1M, Collins 20V3, or Gates with its 833’s a’glowing can be a useful thing if you also have some non-solid state audio and audio processing gear – assuming you have electricity

Of course, who in the public will have working receivers?

During the cold war a Russian pilot landed a MIG and surrendered – our techs laughed when they saw how much “old-fashioned” tube equipment was in the plane.

When they figured out why it was there they stopped laughing !

And this is why I keep my fully restored KWM-2 and 30L-1 right next to my modern solid state rig.

Folks who’ve kept that old AM transmitter in their transmitter buildings may have something quite useful and quite valuable there !
