It would be an understatement to say I am saddened to hear of Darryl's
passing. Darryl was the bridge as we transitioned Public Warning from the
Cold War era to AMBER Alerts. He was instrumental in guiding the Nevada EAS
SECC in the development of our first EAS Plan in 1995 and 1966. He guided us
through the early days of EAS, including the first activations for the
historic 1997 floods in Nevada and California. For years, he was always
there with an answer to our questions and an explanation of How Things Work.
Even after the lights were turned out at TFT, Darryl was always available
for our EAS questions.

He was more than a colleague and fellow labourer in the EAS Vineyard. He was
a wise and tolerant uncle gently drilling the minutiae of things I didn't
understand until he had worked past the blonde roots and ingrained UTC into
my DNA.

This news is only made tolerable by the fact that, in my mind, he was
greeted at the Pearly Gates by angels playing 60 seconds of the dual tone
attention signal, and two other Giants of Civil Defense, Stan Harter and my
father.

RIP, Darryl.
