[EAS] The Daisy Chain

Hi Sean ..Thanks for the info - I could not make the call as was getting PT
for a sprained ankle at the time.
Always nice to be able to say 'The trouble is leaving here OK' (Old
telephone company line)

I've hear, from time to time, critical comments about Premiere not doing
RWT's etc. Wonder if FEMA will lean on - BOTH OF THEM - them to up their
game? IMHO, all both of these systems should be sending -regular- tests.
How else are we to know they are working?

If they won't, perhaps time to re-consider using them for a source?

Thanks again

Yes Clay, this issue was identified on the FCC post-test call with SECC
Chairs.
Premiere sent Header Codes and EOM, but no audio message per many on the
call.

Wow, first time in years I've ever heard anyone got anything through the
Premiere FEMA satellite distribution.

Premiere (and SiriusXM) don't regularly test the audio message potion of EAS
distribution end-to-end.

That shouldn't be a surprise. The EAS daisy-chain depends on setting audio
levels all along the distrubtion chain. In order to set audio levels on the
transmitters and receivers, need to regularly (at least monthly) send a test
message including audio through the distribution channel. Otherwise it will
be a long time before you realize their is a problem, e.g. during an actual
emergency.
