Interesting reading for a Monday morning. By embedding 1.83 seconds of the 853/960 Hz pair in a documentary, a network is fined $20,000. The base forfeiture amount is $8000, but there were previous circumstances that warranted an increase from the base amount.
If you were a manager of a facility that wanted to avoid this type of penalty, would you consider purchasing a notch filter that removed one or both of the tones in the program feed prior to the actual EAS encoder? I would think that a manufacturer of audio processing equipment could add this as an optional feature to their devices (with appropriate handshaking so genuine tones from the station's encoder are passed).
