After some Yolo County residents didn't get evacuation alerts as fires 
burned mere miles away from their homes, supervisors made a commitment to 
improving the emergency alert system.

The county's Office of Emergency Services Manager Dana Carey said that on 
Aug. 19, when the wildfires came dangerously close to Winters' surrounding 
rural areas, 100% of the voice call alerts sent to county residents in 
zones 58 and 60 failed. At a town hall meeting last week, Carey said this 
was partially due to robocall blocking.
