>So, some of us really believe that amplitude modulation broadcast radio
will still be for a while the technologically simplest and most reliable way
to transmit and receive life safety information when all else fails. The
bright, shiny objects of digital technology are great when they work. When
lives and property preservation depend on those objects with no fall back
system, we are in trouble.
Richard

The Nashville explosion perfectly illustrates what Clay and Richard are
trying to say. More than 24 hours later and some AT&T services are still not
available. The situation shows the need for an RF back up network for public
warnings and information in a disaster or emergency. It doesn't have to be
an explosion--it can be as simple as a case of "backhoe fade", an earthquake
or a broken water main. Monday we all need to ask our state and local
emergency managers what they would do if a major telecommunications system
in their area was suddenly taken out of service.
