Kevin Kidd wrote over in the Broadcast forum regarding the Nashville bombing:

"I am in Lawrenceburg, about 75 miles SW of Nashville but our local internet and 911 service has been down since about 11am yesterday when the batteries in the damaged (target?) Nashville Downtown Main CO finally screwed themselves into the ground. ATT landlines seem to be working normally here but ATT wireless phones are all dead to the outside world.  I haven't heard if ATT wireless phones can call each other."

To Clay's point--relying in the internet as the only path for emergency information is yet another point of failure.
