The Washoe County (Nevada) Regional Medical Examiner's office has released
the autopsy report on the deaths of the two engineers who died Feb. 28 while
working in a transmitter building on a mountainside north of Reno. The
report shows that both John Finkbohner and Herb Primosch died of carbon
monoxide poisoning. Their deaths have been ruled accidental and there will
be no further investigation.
According to John Poray, Executive Director of the Society of Broadcast
Engineers, this is the first case of broadcast engineers being killed on the
job as a result of carbon monoxide poisoning. Their deaths are a reminder
that we face more dangers on the job than an overload of electrons.
Engineers here in Nevada are adding CO detectors to their transmitter
buildings and purchasing personal CO monitors.
