[EAS] new legislative activity on EAS/WEA

Bill - setting the soapbox aside for the moment, remember that none of us
have seen the full text of these bills yet. So few of us know yet whether
the bills direct additional funding to FEMA (or the FCC), or "compel" them
to do more with the same stretched funding they have already.
I second Suzanne's comment on the 1st Amendment, but also raise the 10th
Amendment - those functions not specifically enumerated to the Federal gov't
are reserved to the states - like public safety. So the idea of a single
Federal agency directed to make ALL emergency public information systems
function
perfectly nationwide, may be rather problematic and troublesome
(constitutionally).
I do agree with the bottom line as you posit it - that the American public
deserves nothing less than timely and accurate public emergency information.
