Section 73.1820 requires logging of:
"(iii) An entry of each test and activation of the Emergency Alert System (EAS) pursuant to the requirement of part 11 of this chapter and the EAS Operating Handbook. Stations may keep EAS data in a special EAS log which shall be maintained at a convenient location; however, this log is considered a part of the station log."
However, Section 73.1800 allows for a log to be kept automatically, while Section 73.1840 permits logs to be stored "on microfilm, microfiche or other data-storage systems."
So, while EAS tests need to be logged, the rules clearly permit the "automatic" log of the EAS decoder to be used as the station log of EAS activity as part of a data-storage system. Section 1820 also requires that such a log be readily available for viewing, which, of course, is easily met by a bookmark on someone's computer with the URL of the EAS decoder on the local network.
