There is some logic to establishing a separate BLU code, compared to
re-using LEW. I just disagree with the DOJ program's argument against LEW.
Note that the National Blue Alert Act (2015) states that the Blue Alert
Coordinator (the Department of Justice) has a specified duty to establish an
advisory group to assist States, units of local government, law enforcement
agencies, and other entities involved in the network with initiating,
facilitating, and promoting Blue Alert plans.
The law specifies that this DOJ advisory group was to have included
"broadcasters." Not sure if such a group has been set up yet, or if they
invited any broadcasters. I haven't heard anything about it. But, for
argument's sake, should not such a DOJ advisory panel have been convened
either prior to or parallel with this FCC NPRM?

I won't argue with Ed's assertion about the politics of "voluntary," but I
will state (again) that BLU Alerts are of no benefit to anyone but the
politicians who want to be seen as "doing something" about attacks on police
officers. I have yet to see the citation of a single case in which a BLU
alert would have prevented the death of or injury to a cop.
