Yes, you are missing something.  Last stats I saw (from the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention) said that only 8% of US households had a landline and no cell phones.  47% have cell phones only and 42% have both.  Those stats are just over a year old (December 2015), but the same report stated that a mere 12 years ago, only 3% of US households had cell phones and no landline.
