No reason they can't, but why would they? People forget that so-called "social media" are for-profit enterprises. As such, they have no incentive to send users to other systems, or to share content (which is pretty much saying the same thing.)
Personally I've long sort of resented the coercive aspect of calling certain commercial services "social media"... coercive in that it implies that if you don't use them you must be socially inadequate if not downright anti-social. But taking it on business terms, it's brilliant branding.
There are integrated SM authoring packages like HootSuite out there, but even they haven't seen a business reason to venture into heavily-authenticated official alerting.
