The parking lot is part of Robert Moses state park. Going East, almost everything is boardwalk where people either walk or use golf carts. Even the volunteer fire departments use specialized golf carts. The year round population is under 200 and the year round structures occupied are under 80. The season is basically late June to Labor Day and is broken into essentially three categories:
Season or part season rentals. These people might occasionally watch satellite TV but that is not why they shelled out sometimes north of $10,000 to be there
Weekend which are basically party people. On the west end, Ocean Beach is a virtual frat party. People are regularly throwing up on the boardwalk. The court runs 24/7 to arraign all the arrests there. To the East, still a major party but a more mature crowd.
Day trippers, a lot of whom are local, but it gets prohibitively expense to bring a family there so even that is not a typical beach scene.
So, no cell service, no cable, few telephones, very unreliable Internet ( if at all ) and 4 FM stations that might forward Suffolk county alerts - WALK, WBLI, WBGO and WBAB that actually effectively cover that area but have programming that can not remotely compete with what's coming out of the clubs and bars so nobody listens.
This is a place where the likes of Liza Minelli, Lady Gaga and any others perform live. Nobody needs radio.
