The NWS is carefully discerning how we might simplify and clarify the messages we provide when hazardous conditions occur. The NWS conducted a number of focus groups in 2014. We are actively looking for your inputs by completing an online survey.

The Decision-maker Survey assesses the extent to which organizations (at all levels and in various sectors) formally incorporate our current suite of advisories, watches and warnings into their decision-making processes via policies, protocols, laws, etc. Of course, the dissemination of weather information through the EAS is voluntary. However, since the NWS requests EAS activations for significant weather events, it seemed appropriate for us to formally reach out to our EAS partners across the nation.

This examination focuses on the language in NWS messaging to convey forecaster expectations of hazard timing, certainty and impacts. The results of this effort could lead to future improvements to better enable users to take life- and property-saving action. Your feedback is very important to us as we work to build a Weather-Ready Nation, where communities are ready, responsive, and resilient to increasing vulnerabilities from extreme weather and water events.
This survey will close on October 31, 2016.
