IP or Internet based distribution is something that we MUST use because it's
there - AND ITS CHEAP - and we would be run out of town if we did not use
it.
With that being said, if you were to start with a blank sheet of paper to
design a public warning distribution system you would likely not use any
form of distribution that is subject to 'backhoe fade'.
Amazing how many times, when all else fails, we fall back to wireless
systems. Why is it that Amateur Radio gets called in to save the day
(time after time) It's not because they have call letters replacing last
names...It's because their primary means of communication is wireless and
lots of redundancy.
As I keep saying - Today we choose 'bling' (Feature rich stuff) over
'redundant/reliable' (perhaps feature-less)
The general attitude is that we will use the bling-stuff until it fails and
then we will scream for someone to come rescue us.
