Red Envelope........
VERY good idea! You could download a significant number of them at once
via CAP (kind of like a one time pad cypher). They would be resident in
the unit in non-accessible memory that would erase if tampered with.
(Don't tell me that someone can't, or hasn't, developed something like
that). When the "pad" gets down so far, it calls for another download
which can be done at leisure. Each device could also have it's own
unique encryption/decryption algorithm so even if the pad is hijacked
enroute, it won't work in any other commercial unit or a homebrew device.
While I am absolutely not a codewriter, nor did I stay in a certain
motel last night, I do have the distinct belief that this system either
already exists, or could in relatively short order.
Also sending encrypted EAN's via DBS (multi-platform) to LP 1's seems to
be another way to further secure the system.
I am not saying that all of this is perfectly secure, perfect security
does not exist, but overcoming the above would very probably require a
state sponsored organization.
