I am gathering that your objection is 'government intervention' and you feel
that (perhaps) EAS is a form of 'intervention'

I submit that there are times that some branch of government is the ONLY
place to get official information and do so quickly.

Another point - One of the purposes of EAS is to be able to spread a
life-saving messages via - ALL POSSIBLE MEANS.    Ideally this would mean
all Radio/TV/Cable and wireless device at the same time.    Granted many
major market media outlets do a great job...But what we should be thinking
about are those facilities that can reach the public that are not tuned to
of these facilities.
