Greetings:

The following is a recap of the EAS-related events that will occur next week in Las Vegas from Sunday thru Wedneaday.

First, there will be the annual EAS-specific open meeting that will occur during the NAB Convention in Las Vegas next week from the Broadcast Warning Working Group, the host of the EAS Forum. Sunday, April 6 - 2 PM - 4 PM - Las Vegas Convention Center (LVCC) Rooms N234 and N236

The Annual EAS Forum Information Exchange is designed for EAS Participants to meet and talk about their specific state and local issues with their peers, and hear what is going on from those of us who deal with EAS on the national scene. This year we want to hear your views on multi-lingual EAS since the FCC has an open item that is partially concerned with this issue.

At the Sunday meeting we will also talk about the special panel that NAB has put in for 2 PM on Wednesday, April 9 titled, " Effectively_Integrating_EAS_with_New_Possibilities_for_Alert_Messages "in Room N234. This has been set up as an NAB BEC session but we are hoping to have word at our Sunday meeting that persons not registered for sessions can attend.
Description:
During some storm events, local National Service offices can literally "flood" the EAS with warnings. Example: Some EAS participants have experienced as many as 15 Flash Flood Warnings within a few hours. Boiler plate information can make each event run 90 seconds or more. This panel will outline what has been done so far to mitigate this problem, and what remains to be done.

There is also the 9AM-10AM NAB session titled, "The_Status_and_Security_of_the_Emergency_Alert_System"in Room N227.
Description:
The broadcasting industry is working with the FCC, the Department of Homeland Security, and other EAS stakeholders to implement the President's Executive Order on cyber security. Meanwhile, EAS alerts are now received on mobile phones, the FCC is starting to reboot the process for State EAS Plans, and the FCC has stepped up enforcement on the unauthorized use of EAS tones. Come join our panel of experts from government and industry as they discuss these critical issues related to EAS and the unique role of radio and TV stations during times of emergency.

At 10 AM on Wednesday right after the previous session also in Room N227: Statewide_CAP-Based_EAS_Using_Web-Based_Origination
Description:
Practical Implementation of a Statewide CAP-based Emergency Alert System using Web-based Origination (With live demo)
