EAS Participants,
The purpose of this email is to update the community about recent EAS Feed changes and to clarify any misconceptions. I have tried to be as descriptive as possible without divulging specifics. Listserv messages are published online so I encourage others to be vigilant as well. Avoid disclosing specifics of your EAS device, software version, network architecture, physical location, password strength, etc to this listserv. This "volunteered" information can be used by bad actors to profile your systems and facilitate potential attacks.
Recent changes and effects to EAS Feed behavior are as follows:
Feb 21 - EAS Feed "last updated" configuration change:
Approximately 1400 EST. Previously, the EAS Feed "last updated" timestamp would automatically change every 2 minutes if there were no new EAS alerts posted. The "last updated" timestamp now automatically changes every 60 minutes if there were no new EAS alerts posted. The reason for this change is to reduce the number of unnecessary "feed" calls, thereby reducing bandwidth utilization at both the client side and the server side. This change DOES NOT alter the standard method of polling the EAS Feed.
Feb 27 - Scheduled outage:
Approximately 0930-1100 EST. This was an IPAWS software update unrelated to the EAS Feed. This DOES NOT alter the standard method of polling the EAS Feed.
Mar 6 - EAS Feed proxy optimization:
Approximately 1200 EST. A proxy sitting in front of the EAS Feed was adjusted to optimize communications between the local EAS device and the EAS Feed. This DOES NOT alter the standard method of polling the EAS Feed.
