[EAS] Why we need Text-To-Speech

Alex,

No problem - it just wasn't clear to me what point you were making.

[off topic]

I was, an ever more depressingly long time ago, first exposed to text
to speech way back with the Votrax made by Federal Screw Works. This
was a stand alone unit with a serial port and a keyboard, one phoneme
per key. The good old days.

We had it hooked to the mainframe, reading the closed section numbers
during student sign-up for classes week (the old way, 10,000 people
stood in line to present a list of class numbers they wanted to
operators using TTY33 110 baud terminals). At the post registration
review, the popular suggestion from students was to not have the
Swedish guy reading the closed section numbers next year.
