[EAS] Why we need Text-To-Speech

Clay and Jim,
I believe all of the "in-expensive EAS Box" solutions will handle text-to-speech conversion, although it cannot be used at a CAP node after the FCC's 5th Report and Order goes into effect. We hope that the text-to-speech prohibition will be temporary and text-to-speech can be turned on with a software switch. At least that is the way it operates with our Model 3320.

Jim -
I suspect that this will be a - market place driven decision. What I mean
is if you choose to purchase an in-expensive EAS Box, you may well get a TTS engine that cannot handle TTS issues as well as a more expensive device.
You could say the same about a lot of products, I suppose.
Would have been nice to have 'someone' create a standard, however, I suspect that the horse has already left the barn.
