Richard,
DHCP will take away the requirement to get the gateway, net mask, and
DNS server(s) correct.
If you have a well behaved router, you'll get the same IP address -
some also allow you to register a MAC address to get the same IP address.
DNS servers don't change often, but they do from time to time. Some
routers will act as a DNS, so you only need to enter the address of
the router in the ENDEC, not the real, changeable, DNS.
DHCP will usually make your life easier, if you have a well behaved router.
