Responding to Rays comment -

Not that I'm against computers. In many ways they have made life easier, in
some - they've complicated it more.

Does anyone else remember a time when we had "REAL" problems that would
actually require replacement of diodes and resistors to fix?

Ray - This is done all the time - Resistors, diodes along with ALL of the
other components are tossed in the trash routinely. The days when you
would trouble shoot a problem down to the component are pretty much
gone....For a couple of reasons the main one being cost. It's no longer
cost effective to employ a technician that has the skills to deal with
todays electronics (Think big chips and very small surface mount
devices)....Then there is the problem of where would you find such a person
anyway?

Clay Freinwald, still doing it for almost 51 years.
