Greetings:

I just posted an article regarding the bill that Senator Susan Collins (R-ME) will soon introduce on the EAS Forum website:

http://eas.radiolists.net/

A key point is that Congress and the Executive Branch will, if the bill is passed in both chambers and signed by the President, have long-needed direct oversight and buy-in that will help all EAS stakeholders provide better and more timely warnings to people at risk so they can take protective actions to save lives and property.

Another important point: The bill will also help motivate emergency managers who have in some parts of the county been reluctant to work with us on EAS issues to do so by reinforcing roll-out of EAS / IPAWS training mandates already in the works by FEMA.

The BWWG plans on writing one or more letters of support on this bill when it is introduced hopefully in both the Senate and the House.
We hope that members of this list and those you know who are dedicated to meaningful national warning strategies and actions at all levels will join us in supporting this effort.

News of this bill will certainly be greeted with some skepticism. All I can ask at this point is to see how this pans out. The path to enactment should hopefully be bi-partisan.
