Clarification on CAP-Converters:
I voiced my opinion early on to both of the main manufacturers of these
add-on CAP-Converters and told them they both miss-the-mark as to their
complete functionality for enabling CAP messaging on the EAS
infrastructure. As well, I've said they simply are a non-starter for the
advancement of a better and more integrated EAS message. You simply
cannot make a device "honk-out" a GMC/GMA and you cannot utilize the
optional expanded text across an FSK stream for EAS.
Lest we not confuse a CAP Converter with what Trilithic has devised for
its legacy EAS product, (e.g. EASyPLUS/CAST/IPTV systems). Trilithic's
legacy systems rely on an external component, but not a converter.
Trilithic's external software (either Windows or Linux based) simply
decodes a CAP message, (optional text and GMA flag), and transfers the
alerts via Ethernet/IP to up to eight (8) EASy series EAS systems,
taking full advantage of what appears as an integrated CAP-EAS system,
simply housed in two separate containers instead of one. Their next-Gen
EASyCAP system is fully integrated into one can and performs the same
functions as their legacy gear.
