Wayne--
NO, No, no...we did that with CONELRAD and EBS. The RMT is one of the
biggest draws we have to get local emergency management involved and
committed to EAS! It not only gives them a chance to learn how to use the
system, when other people tell them "I heard you on the radio/TV the other
day" they get positive reinforcement of the value of EAS. It's taken me
years to get our state and local EM's over the impression that only the feds
can use it!

And remember that there's never been a national EAS activation, but there
have been plenty of local activations, everything from AMBER Alerts to
HazMat spills and weather warnings. The four hundred plus kids who have been
recovered thanks to AMBER Alerts would probably like it if EAS stayed local.

As one of those "volunteers" I say we need our cobbled up, local EAS!

Here's a thought that we all might want to get behind. Since EAS is a
national system and the RMT is a federal requirement, why not have FEMA do
the monthly test?

This would replace the patchwork systems of 50 states and test the ENTIRE
system.

It would also take a great deal of pressure off the "volunteers" who try to
keep the current cobbled up systems working.

Just a thought, but I would vote for it today!
