Spoofing a page, DoS attack, exploited RSS elements, etc. The IPAWS RSS feed from the aggregator will include a digital certificate, and potentially other security safeguards as well.
The FNRPM, however, is interesting in distinguishing that governors' alerting should come from state CAP RSS sources, while IPAWS presents Federal CAP alerts on its RSS feed. THE FNRPM indicates that state systems should use the same methodology as the FEMA RSS feed - does this include adding digital certificates as well as other potential validation methods?
However, in practice, this may pose more complications than the FCC may have initially considered. What of the cost burden and maintenance that states would have to create a secured RSS feed akin to IPAWS? What about those numerous states that have *already* spent considerable sums on CAP systems that may provide higher reliability and security delivery than RSS?
