For our part, the current software versions in both the DASDEC and R189 One-Net CAP EAS units are currently provisioned to monitor RSS feeds. Easy software updates for those that need it.

There are risks and vulnerabilities with RSS feeds for the originator as well as readers (or RSS aggregators) for the receiver that are worth discussing.

Is your firmware capable of RSS feeds now? Or is a firmware upgradeneeded. How hard is it to hack into an RSS feed and plant a CAP alert?Don MillerKE7UUKTelecommunications and Warning Systems ManagerIT Telecommunications WMDState EOC Builidng 20Tacoma, WA 98430-5120(253) 512-7035 (W)(253) 405-9446 (C)-----Original Message-----From: eas-bounces at radiolists.net [mailto:eas-bounces at radiolists.net] OnBehalf Of Harold PriceTom,Though RSS appears to the user as a push - you subscribe to a feed, and articles show up, but behind the scenes, it is a pull - your browser or other RSS reader periodically fetches them for you.In the case of CAP, the device will periodically go out to the RSS server and read a list of active alerts, which includes a link to the actual CAP message. The CAP device can then fetch the actual CAPmessage.Polling.HaroldAt 04:53 PM 5/26/2011, Tom Taggart wrote:>2. Proposes PUSH rather than PULL system, using RSS of CAP>messages.
