[EAS] National Test

Use of the Washington DC FIPS code could be a problem. I am only familiar with the TFT EAS-911, but unless I am mistaken, one of the criteria for a message to be auto-forwarded is that it must match at least one of the stored FIPS codes in the list of which FIPS codes should be forwarded. Does this mean that for the national test, every station that wants the message to trigger an auto-forward is going to have to add the FIPS for Washington DC to their list?

Wayne....just so you are aware and everyone else is too....

There will be NO EAT sent with this test. Similar to how it was done in Alaska, the test will end with a EOM just like a RMT or RWT. FEMA felt that issuing an EAT would amount to a second live code test and isn't needed.

The EAN will be sent using the FEMA org code and the Washington DC FIPS code. The audio will be a 3:30 recorded announcement by a Presidential designee and the test will end with an EOM being transmitted.

Seems to be a lot of confusion on the EAN and forwarding...

The specs of every EAS box should be than EAN is auto-forwarded regardless of how the machine is set. This is mandatory and cannot be stopped or delayed by an operator.

The box is to remain in the forward mode and re-transmitting received audio UNTIL the EAT is sent.

EAN is NOT recorded and forwarded. The audio is LIVE from the EAN source.

If the EAT is missed the only way to kill the audio forward is to unplug the box. Running RWT will not reset.

I am not sure why this is such a big deal. We test our part of this every month and it works. The only unknown is the Feds and that brings up another question? Anyone have a clue why this test is to last 3 and a half minutes?

My guess would be to make sure no units time out....but I am not thrilled about giving up that much time. On the other hand, if it works..every radio/tv/cable channel will be down as well.....so I guess it won't matter.

BTW...has anyone told them that NWS has no provision (that I know of) for live audio?
