It was about that era...and my Dad was the kind of ham who thought turning
anything into a radio was great sport. My Aunt tells me his fascination with
radios began back when they were teenagers. He would take apart the family
radio and apparently everyone but their mother (there were 12 kids in that
family!) would worry whether he'd get it back together in time for their
favorite radio shows. He always did...

Then there was the sport in Ham Radio that called for
loading up anything that you thought would radiate.  Back in the
late 50's several folks worked the world using their bed-springs
as an antenna.  Curtain rods and window screens were used too.
