Richard,
When I listened to the audio file of the EAS message insertion I had a
very different impression that Eric's. I was pleased to note that the
EAS message arrived at the same time that the highly skilled,
professional WGN newsroom was presenting that message to their listening
audience. If there was no EAS WGN's coverage would have been the end of
dissemenation of that particular message. However, since EAS was
activated, that message was available for relay to listening/viewing
audience of all other local broadcast and cable operations that did not
have the benefit of the on-duty staff in WGN's newsroom. That is one of
the things that EAS can, and should do.
