This is small market. As in "no money here." One station
is live 6 am to 6 pm weekdays, but not the other two; and
those two are run out of a studio 20 miles away from the
live station. Those other two stations are often "staffed,"
(that's where we do traffic/billing & sales) but sometimes
that's just the office manager, with everyone else out
selling or running errands (I've got to drive down to
Parkersburg yet this afternoon--30 minutes from here, in
order to pick up a church tape that airs Sunday morning.
Also, just got back from picking "Coats for Kids' barrels
and delivering cleaned coats to local community org.)
And I am talking week days. Weekends and holidays the live
station is fully automated, while we have one fellow in
Saturday and Sunday mornings to program the systems and up
date weathers.
My operations manager lives in Wheeling--hour and ten
minutes away. I live 20 minutes from one studio, ten from
the other. My business partner lives just down the hill
from the one station, but his daughter is in college--in the
WVU marching band; and he only gets his son from Pittsburgh
on the weekends. So hard telling where he would be weekends.
So I ask again--who is going to do all this? Yes, a box
could be designed to spit out call letters (one box
interrupts both upriver stations, the other controls the
live station at that studio). But describe the specific
location of the emergency, fill in travelers, etc.?? Get
real.
