The server provides the decode device (Sage...Dasdec) the ability to either, poll for alerts or have them sent via dedicated ip addresses to the decoders. I had 6 decoders to replace that had to use ip address when I left the state of WA to work for Mystateusa. Set up your decoders to poll the server(s). Decoders can poll multiple servers, federal, state, international. Several broadcasters using static ip addresses had their ip addresses changed by their isp without notice.
Static ip are a pain with firewall settings. Polling requires no firewall changes.

Does CAP us any of the standard IP protocols and ports (such as HTTP via port 80 or SMTP via port 25), or do non-standard ports have to be configured? Will this vary between equipment manufacturers, or will the port addresses be determined by the CAP server?
