At the moment the NPR feed is for reinforcement/fill-in for Primary Entry Point (PEP). The PEP feeds are classic SAME EAS.
Some of us are hoping that FEMA will work with syndicators, including NPR, to reinforce and back up public internet access to the federal CAP aggregator's IP address.
FYI, I worked with Mike Starling at NPR in 2002 on the NPR PEP deal when I was Chair of the FCC's EAS National Advisory Committee. Mike went to the NPR board and they approved it.
The PEP SAME EAS feed is on the NPR satellite's "Squawk" channel. For anyone interested in using this feed as part of your local EAS monitoring plan, you have to ask a local NPR stations to connect their Squawk" channel analog audio to an open analog audio input to their EAS device, and modify the local plan to show the NPR station as a primary or backup PEP monitoring assignment.
As some of you know, FEMA is in the process of building out more PEP stations, and changing out some PEP station assignments.
