Ed:

After some help from Sage and particularly from Don
Miller--who sent me a sample program--I think I have their
box up and running. Probably missed something & I thought I
heard it relay two messages at the same time. (It's on the
bench but not in circuit).

The add-on boxes probably can just be connected to the EAS
decoder--and that decoder, already configured, will happily
relay the appropriate alerts for the area--assuming the
add-on decoder sends these alerts to it. Obviously, the
add-on box needs to be configured to be able to reach the
internet & given an address to find the CAP site.

With the Monroe and Sage boxes everything has to be
configured, both the "EAS" side and the "CAP" side. This
will take longer than with the add-on boxes.

1. Out of the box, the Sage unit would just relay RMT and
EAN. Everything else would just be logged. The struggle
came in figuring out the software "logic" (using the word
very loosely) to configure it to run other selected alerts.

There will be a lot of stations who just unplug EAS Decoder
"A" and install EAS/Cap decoder "B."

2. I believe I heard that there is a CAP site up and running
in test mode--my next step is to program in whatever site(s)
that need to be polled to see if my unit will do this or
needs further configuration.

Again, for many stations, the box will go in the rack--but
whether it gets configured for internet access & finding the
cap site is questionable.

In this day and age, it may be more likely that one might
find the old EAS box still hooked to the program line and
monitoring sources--and a brand new EAS/CAP box--sitting on
top the rack, happily polling the internet but not doing
anything else useful because the millennial computer guru
on-staff doesn't do "wires" (mine doesn't--for the longest
time he wondered where I bought those black wires with the
little number tags on them--the stick on wire numbers sold
at Lowes!).
