The Continental 816B was a turkey. The took one cabinet off, put a smaller
power transformer in and combined the whole thing into just 2 cabinets. It
was designed to put out 11Kw. I spent many an unhappy hour wrestling with
#18. It ran, but ate tubes at a high rate even though the numbers were
comparable with its higher powered brothers. It's still on the air; still
eats finals the last I heard (9 - 10 months on average for a 4CX 15,000).
816's (& their Collins 831 ancestors) have always halve had my respect, but
not the 816B.
