They didn't get the nickname Amplifuzz for nothing. The Ampliphase or more more correctly the Chireix modulation approach is probably the most load sensitive AM modulation scheme despite the RCA hype. The solid state J series exciter was designed in Montreal and was a vast improvement over the earlier design. One must remember that the system did not work without the addition of grid modulation which prevented the transmitter from dissipating excessive power at 100% negative modulation and compensated for positive peak compression. If one were to attempt a modern implementation of the design with saturated solid state amplifiers some means of coming up with an equivalent to grid modulation would be necessary. That might possibly changing the RF duty cycle like BE attempted in their 50 KW and what RIZ is doing with their high powered transmitters.
