Ask Rene about the venerable old RCA Ampliphase BTA-50G used at the ex-WIBG AM 990 in Philly.  As I understand it, that transmitter was an endless pain in the rear to keep tuned and sounding good.  I think they still have it in a garage in pieces in case it is needed for on-air duty.  I grew up in that area and talked with their CE back then (1960s). BTW, you weren't supposed to hear Philly in Providence, RI.  That 5-tower in-line array was designed to protect Providence plus Canadian 990s.  Of course, Rene will correct me if I'm wrong, but that's the way I heard it 'back in the day.'
