I want to say thank you to everyone who chimed in this thread. I decided on the Comrex Brik-Link, since we doing IP only. The Access models do POTS too, but we don't need it. And the Brik-Link is half the price! Now my next question. I need some recommendations for a voice conditioner compressor/limiter I can put between the Mackie mixer and the Brik-Link. I apreaciate your recommendations.

>So speaking from the point of Comrex, (and others may concur) we first implemented our own custom mode, then added SIP. We found the SIP modes can't deliver quite the ease-of-use and stability factors that we've groomed into our custom modes, but it's in there.
>Tech 3326 defines the minimum actual codec algorithms, but in practice most manufacturers have implemented the AAC family of algorithms for IP..
>Technically, most codecs should interoperate using SIP modes and AAC algorithms (although some still require an add-on cost to enable AAC). Some testing has been done, but it's incomplete. Second choice for a lowest common denominator is G.722, which enhances voice but IMHO is a bit dated for use by broadcasters these days.
>Finally, new to the scene is Opus, which should be the new Lowest Common Denominator for codecs, and has been implemented by some. We've done compatibility testing with Tieline and have implemented special compatible modes to talk to them..Hopefully soon we'll hear from them that they've enhanced their Opus so we won't need any special modes.
>On an aside, I'd love to find an interested third party to chair a new codec compatibility forum focused on Opus/SIP.
>So the compatibility picture isn't perfect, but it's not awful either. It will take some extra configuring on your side to talk to competitive codecs.
>Best of luck with your search and know that all codec providers offer free demo systems.
