A Blue Box and Hot Line will not work on a VOIP type line. VOIP
lines are packeted and the Blue Box and Hotline require constant data
to work. The year before last I went round and round with one venue
that insisted VOIP was the greatest thing since sliced Possum and it
would give us better service. Once they converted to VOIP both Hot
Lines and Blue Boxes became very erratic. They might connect, but
often they would not pass audio and would constantly retrain and then
drop the connection. After much complaining from me they decided to
prove me wrong and the gave me a real POTS line, C.O. copper
pair. The two boxes worked flawlessly after that. Now, all the
broadcast POTS line at that venue are copper all the way from the
switch to the broadcast position. This has been a consistent issues
anywhere we go when a VOIP phone line is provided.
