Some old audio boards such as Gates and RCA came with Christmas Trees for I/O -- a real bear (to use polite language) to deal with post initial installation.  Mostly I saw cut off pieces of red and black audio wire bristling every which way -- earlier techs were too lazy to find and heat-up the 150 Watt soldering iron to do the job right.  Good riddance Christmas Trees!
