Some truckers use jammers which can even interfere with AM radio! If you get behind one of these, you cannot receive AM, FM, or Satellite until you are well clear. I do not know how it is done although I do know how the small cigarette-lighter transmitters work which could not possibly interfere with AM, but I have been told that they are used to prevent dispatchers from "spying on" the truckers. They disable reception of everything including satellite position receivers and cell phones.
About a year ago ATC communications at Newark Airport was disabled for about a hour and aircraft were routed to their alternates by a parked truck. The newspapers claimed that only GPS signals were blanked, but ATC does not use GPS, it is the airplanes that use GPS and only for enroute navigation. Because of the difference between the news reports and factual information, I think that there is a cover-up of some potential disaster in the making.

Detectors.
Consumer radar detectors are nothing more than a GUNN diode mixer
in the feed horn. As such, the "local oscillator" is *in* the feed horn.
Can you say "transmitter" ? I thought so.
Like most heterodyne receivers, the LO signal is relatively strong.
